Cooperative Education
Cooperative Education is an optional program at the University
of Dayton which integrates classroom theory with practical
work experience. Participating students alternate semesters
of full-time study at the University with semesters of
full-time, paid work experience in industry, business
or government. The Co-op program requires that the student’s
employment be related to the academic discipline being
pursued. It should be diversified enough to afford a broad
learning experience. Subsequent work periods should increase
in difficulty and responsibility.
Most students are available for their work assignments
after they have completed the first semester of their
sophomore year. Students can be hired through on-campus
interviews, or by individual referral. Inquiries are welcome
at anytime throughout the year.
The Cooperative Education Program has proven to be an
effective way to meet hiring objectives. This program
enables the Company to show the student the types of work
assignments available and to increase a student's desire
to work for the company. More importantly, it allows the
company to have the opportunity to thoroughly evaluate
a prospective employee before committing to an offer of
permanent employment. The hiring of a co-op student provides
a tested and experienced employee.
For information about the Program, please review
the Cooperative
Education Handbook for Employers.
Please contact
the Co-op Office with any questions or if you are
interested in participating.
