Career Development To begin a job search:
Create/Update your resume
Create or update your resume . Resume writing tips,
templates and samples are also available in Hire a Flyer.
Upload resume into Hire a Flyer
Upload your resume into Hire a Flyer, update your profile
and job preferences, then view job listings and electronically
refer your resume to employers. Save your job search,
access it from Quick Links and designate the saved search
as a Job
Agent to receive an e-mail message when new jobs
are entered in the system.
Make an appointment with a Career Advisor
Career Advisors offer assistance to all students. If
you have questions about your resume or need help with
interviewing or job search strategy, please call 937.229.2045.
Network
Networking is very important in finding opportunities
that are not advertised. Distribute your resume to family,
friends, and anyone else who may be able to provide
leads for a good internship or position. Contact alumni
in the Alumni Career Network in Hire a Flyer.
Attend other Career Fairs and Events
Research and attend events in the geographical areas
you have considered locating after graduation. If the
company is hiring majors other than yours, talk to the
recruiter about additional opportunities. Research the
companies before attending, take plenty of resumes,
dress professionally and follow up with companies after
the Fair by sending a thank-you note to the recruiters.
Contact Other Career Services Offices
Most college and university career centers have agreed
to provide reciprocity of services. This means that
they are willing to provide certain services to students
from other universities. The services offered depend
on each university’s policy, and some charge a
fee. If you would like assistance in your area, contact
a local university’s career center and ask them
if they could help and what types of services they offer.
They may require an official letter of reciprocity;
if so, contact a UD Career Advisor.
To prepare for next year:
First
Year Students
-Update your

class projects, extra-curricular activities. View
job listings early in the year to get a jump on the
competition!
-If interested in pursuing a co-op opportunity, attend
a co-op information session during the first term.
-Consult your academic advisor or department head
for information on internship opportunities.
Second
Year Students
-Update your
resume to include your summer work experiences, important
class projects, extra-curricular activities. View
job listings early in the year to get a jump on the
competition!
-Research companies that interest you, and seek out
internships with those companies, rather than waiting
to see a job listing.
-If interested in pursuing a co-op opportunity, attend
a co-op information session during the first term.
-Consult your academic advisor or department head
for information on internship opportunities.
Third

class projects, extra-curricular activities and to
reflect that you are now seeking a post graduation

-Indicate your interest in seeking a post graduation
position in the Employment Type section of the Job

released to view post graduation positions, the earlier

their schedules as early as summer!) Now is a good
time to start narrowing down your career preferences,
such as job type and locations.
-Contact your academic advisor or department head
for information on internship opportunities or networking
contacts. Contact alumni in the Alumni Career Network
in Hire a Flyer to start building up your list of
contacts that may be able to help you find a full-time
position when you graduate.
-If you are interested in attending graduate school,
contact the graduate guidance center. Start gathering
information on schools, requirements, programs, etc.
-Plan to attend Career Services sponsored workshops
on subjects ranging from Career Fair Preparation to
Resume Review.
-Begin focusing on your personal preferences such
as job type and locations you may wish to live after
graduation.
Fourth

-If you are
considering Graduate School, begin researching early,
contact
the graduate guidance center.
-Update your resume and profile in Hire a Flyer to
start looking for full-time employment.
-After graduation, join the Alumni Career Network
as a volunteer willing to become a contact for students
and other alumni.
-Then, join your local Alumni Chapter.
-Remember, as an alumni, you have access to all services
provided by UD Career Services at no charge.
